Zebras relishing title race Russell
PHC striker Antwan Russell admitted to his team-mates are relishing being involved in a heated title race ahead of their derby against Southampton Rangers at Southampton Oval.Zebras have been close to the summit all season, and up until last weekend were on top of the Premier Division table before their home draw against St David’s.They must now refocus on their goal of winning the league, with neighbours Southampton Rangers next up tomorrow.Russell believes his side are still firmly in the driver’s seat despite falling two points behind Hornets last weekend.“Derby day you can’t let the emotions get to you, we slipped up in our last game in the league and want to come out in this one and get maximum points,” said Russell.“There’s never a dull moment in the game and our draw against St David’s just added to the spice of the league.“We’re embracing the moment of being in a title race; I’m sure the fans are enjoying it, and we’re excited as players and given that we were written off at the beginning of the season it’s good to be where we are.“Losing to St David’s won’t have the impact on us as most would think, and it’s good we slipped up now rather than later when it really counts.“We have time to recover so the impact shouldn’t be that hard.”PHC could head into tomorrow game five points off the pace if Town, who play tonight at BAA Field against Robin Hood, chalk up another victory. For the newly appointed skipper of the Warwick based club, the pressure will be on his side this weekend, regardless of Town’s result.“Town to me have the advantage because when they play the result gets to us regardless, if they win the pressure is on us to win or be five points back, and if they lose the pressure will be on us to get the result,” said Russell.“The main thing is for us to continue to get the points and see where we are when we play them.”Elsewhere, Village travel to Wellington Oval to tackle St George’s, while Somerset Trojans head to St David’s to take on St David’s at Lords.Boulevard welcome Devonshire Cougars to BAA Field, with all games kicking off at 3pm.
