Two young fashionistas spent an “unbelievable weekend” studying fashion with celebrities in New York.Style Bermuda interns Yanni DelValle and Julianna Gibbons were selected to take part in the coveted Teen Vogue’s Fashion University in Manhattan. They joined 500 other budding fashion experts and sought guidance and advice from famed designers like Michael Kors and Ally Hilfiger.Miss DelValle, 20, described the experience as the “most unbelievable weekend”.“I got to meet new people and people within the industry who were very passionate about what they were doing. I also got to know the Style Bermuda team much better, which made the weekend that much more amazing.“I’m ecstatic to immerse myself in the fashion industry and to see what lies ahead. If this weekend has taught me anything, it is that fashion and writing is my passion and with dedication and hard work and maybe a little bit of luck, I can do what I love to do every single day.”Both Miss DelValle and Miss Gibbons were selected after putting “110 percent” into each Style Bermuda assignment, honouring commitments, respecting deadlines, working well with the entire team and proving to be truly dedicated. At the fashion weekend, Miss DelValle took part in seminars led by Whitney Port, a young fashion designer known from the reality show ‘The Hills’, and jewellery designer Eddie Borgo.Miss Gibbons, who described Miss Gibbons, who described the programme as an “amazing experience”, sat in on seminars led by Make-up Forever artist Jessie Powers and designers like Chris Benz and Peter Som.The 19-year-old said: “The thought of having all these incredible people in the same room is fantastic by itself, but getting the opportunity to learn from them, to ask them questions, to understand what it took for them to become so successful was, and will be, an invaluable part of my education.“The wealth of information that was available to me this weekend was something that comes along in this form only very rarely.“Not only did I learn and experience many things, I had a great amount of fun and was able to gain a unique and valuable perspective on the fashion industry and what it takes to not only make it in fashion, but to be successful and to be your best self.”The girls were able to participate in the once-in-a-lifetime programme, thanks to Digicel, Tess Group and Stylebermuda.com.Style Bermuda creator, Shiona Turini, said she had limited contact with the girls during the programme, but was “ecstatic” to see them representing the online magazine and the Island.“Overall, I was proud of both young ladies. They carried themselves with a certain self-confidence and decorum, and I received nothing but positive feedback from everyone they met.“They were clearly passionate and eager to learn more about the industry and proved that they were more than deserving of this opportunity.”
