Motorist fined and banned for being impaired
A gas attendant was banned from the road for a year after admitting drinking and driving.Tyari Harvey, 34, of Warwick, pleaded guilty to driving with an excess of alcohol in his blood on October 8.Crown counsel Tawana Tannock told Magistrates’ Court police on mobile patrol saw a car travelling at high speed around 1.13am that night. They pursued the car and found it parked in a bus lay-by.As the officers approached, Harvey exited from the driver’s seat and began to walk away.“Yes, I know I was speeding, but I have to pee,” he told the officers.They noticed that Harvey smelled of intoxicants and arrested him on suspicion of impaired driving.At Hamilton Police Station, Harvey provided officers with a breath sample, which showed he had 145mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, well over the legal limit of 80mg.Harvey pleaded guilty in court, saying: “I’m sorry for my offence. I know it was a big mistake I made, and I’m sorry.”Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Harvey $1,000 and banned him from driving all vehicles for a period of 12 months.
