Argus gives $5,000 to summer programme

Victor Scott Primary’s summer learning support programme was kept afloat this summer by donations including a $5,000 boost from the Argus Group. The summer courses, which included social and behavioural instruction as well as academic support, gave weekly classes to about 40 students over the holidays.“In a time when the country needs to work together to look for ways to maintain services and programmes of great need, I applaud those teachers for being proactive and appealing to the private sector and corporate organisations for their financial assistance,” said Victor Scott’s Parent Teacher Association President Azuhaa Coleman.Argus Group was asked for help in July, in order to keep the remedial courses going for a second year.Without the extra classes, ‘at-risk’ students would have been left to find their own summer activities ahead of the start of school tomorrow. Argus Group CEO Alison Hill called the programme a “safe haven” for students in need of extra support.
