Manders plays his part in Capital’s hot streak

Taurean Manders’ Capital City FC have gone on a staggering nine-game unbeaten streak to climb within three points of the top of the table. The Canadian Soccer League side haven’t lost since their opening game of the season, and have won seven of their last ten matches.Their most recent win came at the weekend a 4-1 victory over London City and will look to make it ten games without defeat when they travel to Windsor Stars on Saturday.“Things are going well to this point,” said Manders. “Being unbeaten in nine games shows the rest of the league we mean business, even if we are the new boys on the block.”City had been tipped to struggle in this season their first at this level although their red-hot start has helped allay any such concerns, proving their doubters wrong.Manders said: “There were whispers before the season started that expectations for Capital City from the rest of the league were not good at all. So up to now we have made a good representation of ourselves. Most of the teams we have played have been in the bottom half of the table, so the tougher tests are still to come.”The ex-North Village defender has been an ever-present this season, and while he’s satisfied with his form, he still feels there’s plenty more to come.“So far this season I have been regular, starting all our games,” said the Bermuda international. “I feel good about my performances so far, even though I know can improve and raise my level.“I’m my own worse critic, so even when I get a couple plaudits for my performances I’ve still thought I wasn’t good enough. Hopefully I can carry on with that attitude, keep improving and concentrating on the next game each time.”Despite City’s superb form, head coach Shaun Harris, a former Everton assistant, also believes there’s plenty of room for improvement.“There’s things we can always improve on, but at the end of the day, we put on a solid performance and won 4-1,” he said.“But we’ve scored a lot of goals in these matches and we have the talent and drive to even get better.”City are now just three points behind first place Montreal Impact but have two games in hand.Manders signed for City after impressing during pre-season trials.
