A day of inspiring tips for young women

All business: CedarBridge Academy S4 student Chrishae Gibbons modelled the appropriate attire for a young woman heading up the corporate ladder during the school’s 100 Women on Campus Day.

The second annual ‘100 Women on Campus’ was held on May 5 at CedarBridge Academy. This was an event created for all CBA women, and this year’s theme was “Women Inspiring Younger Women.” All women in the building were given invitations to participate and asked to come dressed in appropriate business attire. This beautiful event began as we entered school in the morning with the “Ladies Dress for Success” competition in which our business attire including accessories, clothing, hair and make-up was judged.Following that, we took part in the official opening ceremony where our Minister of Education, Dame Jennifer Smith inspired us by saying how proud she was to be speaking to the future leaders of Bermuda. Also present were other important dignitaries, faculty and mothers and grandmothers of the young women who attend CedarBridge Academy. A panel of successful CedarBridge teachers and students shared with us their words of wisdom. They told us to support each other, be each other’s confidantes and hang on to positive people who won’t bring you down. This day was productive and very busy. During Advisory, professional women spoke to the female students about their career choices. The presentations included information technology, law, social work, counselling, nursing, and cosmetology. Lunch time was also eventful. There was a HOT fashion show during lunch with students and teachers showing off the latest business fashions. Also, there was a fun mother-daughter competition: “How Well Do You Know Each Other.” Farah Steede and her mother knew each other best and won the competition. Plus, there was a special power luncheon given for the interviewers and selected students. At the end of the day, we had the privilege of interviewing several young women to ask what they thought about the second annual ‘100 Women on Campus.’ Stevontae in S4 said that she felt successful already just by walking in heels. Kiara in S1 said that she liked the fact that all girls got the chance to dress up like business women and learn about our careers. Finally, Mychel in S4 said that she believes ‘100 Women on Campus’ is a great way to mould our young women into being confident and successful in life. We personally think this was an opportunity for the girls of CedarBridge Academy to learn different aspects of being professional. We believe all girls at CedarBridge Academy deserve to be successful and are definitely “BIG TIME!”
