Injuries force BCB to delay elite comp
A combination of player injuries and work commitments have forced the Bermuda Cricket Board to postpone the start of the Elite Player League. The League had been due to begin today with four matches scheduled to take place at Southampton Oval, and another four scheduled for tomorrow. However, cricket on both days has now been scrapped, and the league will now get under way on Saturday, May 21.With the likes of Malachi Jones, Kyle Hodsoll, Jim West all injured, the delay will allow the teams to hopefully be at full strength by the time the competition starts.A venue for that day has yet to be decided, and it is possible that the delay will allow the BCB and the National Sports Centre Board of Trustees to make arrangements to host the games at North Field. The BCB had originally wanted to play the games at the national stadium, however the current financial crisis caused a re-think. The Trustees though are keen to still host cricket, and the two sides are expected to sit down to discuss the issue early next week. One thing that has been finalised is the make up of the four teams, and the coaches who will take charge of them. St George’s coach Clay Smith will take charge of the Hunt XI, national assistant coach Clevie Wade has the Symonds XI, Andre Manders will run the Simmons XI, and Herbie Bascome is to coach Parfitt XI.n Full squad lists can be found online at www.cricket.bm
