Bandmaster Gibbons laid to rest

A funeral with full military honours was held yesterday for former Bermuda Regiment music director, Captain Horace Gibbons.Capt Gibbons died at age 91.He was aged 15 when he joined the Bermuda Militia Artillery (BMA) band in 1935. In 1958 when the Bermuda Regiment was formed through the amalgamation of the BMAs and the all-white Bermuda Volunteer Rifle Corp (BRVC), Capt Gibbons became its first Bermudian bandmaster.The Regimental Band formed a guard of honour on the steps of historic St Peter's Church yesterday as the bandmaster's coffin was carried inside.
