Duffy victorious in Mexico
Bermuda triathlete Flora Duffy claimed a superb victory in the Mazatlan ITU Triathlon in Mexico yesterday.She posted a time of two hours, eight minutes and six seconds 32 seconds quicker than her nearest rival Paola Diaz of Mexico.Duffy emerged from the 1.5 kilometre swim in first place in a time of 20:05, then finished the 40km bike course in 1:08.53 before completing the four laps of the 10k run in 37:57.She was also given a 15 second time penalty on the run, but still managed to win the race, which forms part of the Pan American Cup.Just weeks after breaking Bermuda’s 3,000 metre record, Lamont Marshall has run the quickest time by an Islander in the 5,000m, it has been reported.Marshall was competing at Duke Invitational in Raleigh, North Carolina.He posted a time of 14:27 which is ten seconds faster than the old record which he himself had set.He finished 8th overall, thirty-five seconds behind the race winner Leonard Korir who clocked a time of 13:52.
