CedarBridge Academy parents didn’t need to wait to hear about their child’s school day yesterday they were invited to sit next to them in lessons.About 50 moms and dads took up the opportunity to find out what life at the senior school is like for their children.The adults had “a great time” as they took part in the Bring Your Parents To School event from Tuesday to Thursday this week.CedarBridge Academy has been hosting the event for about five years to improve communication between parents and teachers.Deputy principal Joanne Anderson said: “We always have an open door policy for parents, but this really gives parents first-hand experience of what goes on in a typical day.“It’s gone really well. Parents from all years take part, but it’s always most popular with S1 parents.“Maybe the older ones are a little embarrassed, but most of the children are quite proud that their parents are with them. You see them walking around together and everyone looks happy.”Some parents opted to sit in on a couple of lessons, while others stayed with their child for the entire day.Mrs Anderson said they had found that parents who showed an interest in their child’s studies helped to increase academic achievement.She said: “Parents can be very selective about when they come in. We find many have certain motives about overseeing their child’s work in certain lessons. Some parents only wanted to sit in on math, English and science.”
