Karate Kid!

Hi! Ya! I can still hear my mother saying it now, even though I'm 13 and then I was 9: "Boy, you need to go to karate, your anger is really getting on my nerves."

My karate classes started at 4 p.m. at the Youth Centre.

There were other classes there as well you can either play football or just hang out.

At first the classes were boring to me, but when Alton (my brother) came I took more interest. We always paired up with each other when we did our drills. Eventually my mother and younger brother Eric got involved.

My mom got involved for the exercise and Eric started because he thought he would be learning back and front flips. He was sadly surprised.

As for me, who started off as an angry little boy, it ended up as a Family Fight Team (FFT)!

Every Sunday after and sometimes before church Alton and I had tournaments. Alton participated in the 'KATA' section

(Kata ¿ different forms of karate, poses and stances). I always did sparring, because I was angry and that helped me to win all my fights.

Hanging above my drawer are my gold medals. I was so good that I was recruited to Bermuda's Youth team.

Bermuda's Youth team has participated in world tournaments and we came fifth. The Japanese contestants came first.
