School continues tradition with cross-country race

Heading for the top: three Dellwood Middle School cross country runners push up Langton Hill

On Thursday, January 22, 2009, Dellwood Middle School held their annual cross-country competition. Both students and teachers participated in this event.

This event is a competition between the two school houses, Maroon House and Blue House. All students and some teachers participated in the 1.1 mile run, to earn points for their house. The house with the most points, won.

The course consisted of one lap around North Village Field, through St. John's graveyard, up Langton Hill, through Black Watch Pass, back through the graveyard and again around the field. All in all, it was a very, very exhausting race.

The annual cross-country competition is a Dellwood Middle School tradition. It is held to create competition between the houses. We also participate in this event to raise awareness about the importance of physical fitness. When asked how she felt about this event, Lashuna Smith, first place for M2 girls said, "I like Cross Country because I can run fast and show teachers and teammates how fast I can run."

Most students enjoyed this event and cannot wait to do it all again next year.
