Wade wants revenge on Trinidad

Bermuda Under-17 coach Mark Wade has urged his team to take revenge on Trinidad and Tobago in the World Cup qualifiers.

The Soca Warriors, who are hosting the qualifiers, knocked Wade's Bermuda out of last summer's Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Cup at the quarter-final stage.

Bermuda travel to Trinidad next week where they will also play Aruba and St. Martin. The top team of each group will progress to the next stage, while the best two runners-up also advance.

"Last summer we played in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Cup and reached the quarter-final stages where we lost to Trinidad," said Wade. "We're hoping with the preparation we've had over the last year we can improve upon that performance. A lot will depend on our first match against Trinidad in terms of qualifying or not and we'll be looking for a bit of revenge. The players are really up for it.

"We would have liked to have played more international matches to let the parents see the team play at home, but that didn't come to fruition."

The Under-17, also coached by Ray Jones, warmed up for the qualifiers by competing at the Schwan's USA Cup in Minnesota where they finished runners-up in weekend event and reached the play-offs of the week-long tournament.

n Last night Bermuda Under-20s drew 0-0 against Cayman Islands in the opening match of their World Cup qualifiers.

Bermuda's next match is against Jamaica in Cayman tomorrow.
