Banking hit hard

Bermuda's banking sector was down again for the second straight day, as stocks fell on The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index (BSX) yesterday.

Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd. dropped 35 cents (3.64 percent) to close at $9.25, with 1,000 shares traded.

Butterfield Bank also declined 10 cents (0.74 percent) to $13.40, as 75,464 shares changed hands.

Elsewhere, Kentucky Fried Chicken Bermuda fell five cents (0.82 percent) to $6, with 1,300 shares transacted.

BF&M Ltd. was up $1 (5.55 percent) at $19, with 3,400 shares traded, while Belco Holdings Ltd. was also active, trading 15 shares, but its share price held firm.

Overall the Index dropped 6.63 points (0.16 percent) to 4,191.05, with a total of 81,179 shares worth $1,098,971.75 changing hands.

The BSX Insurance Index, however, inched up 2.54 points to 1,014.43.
