Why I teach!

An important function of education is the development of fundamental knowledge and skills necessary for future learning. The inability to read and write is one that will impede an individual's academic and social progress. The teacher is the person who facilitates the learning process and he or she will either inspire or stunt a child's enthusiasm. The presentation of information will often capture or discourage a child's interest in a subject matter, therefore, it is important that teachers are aware of and utilise the many resources available to enhance the learning potential of a child.

I am committed to assisting parents with the education of their children. I believe that parents are the most powerful and important teachers a student will ever have.

I believe that if a parent chooses to seek the help of a teacher, the only way to ensure the success of the student is for the parent and teacher to work closely. To accomplish this, establishing personal communication links with parents is vital to a team philosophy.

Parents need to feel supported and be aware of what is happening in the classroom. Regular phone calls or e-mails can foster a respected and healthy relationship between parent and teacher. I am a firm believer that communication is important in understanding expectations and infractions of school policies.

I believe that a teacher's role is to facilitate the learning process by allowing the students to choose different strategies for memory retention and skill application. In so doing, the student takes a participatory role in the educational process.

Learning should not be a tedious process, which generally leads to disinterest and low standards. My goal as a teacher is to use my experiences to assist students in reaching their highest potential, and to develop a life long thirst for learning.
