Rio Para filling in for Bermuda Islander

The container ship the Bermuda Islander is currently experiencing mechanical problems and has been temporarily replaced by the Rio Para.

Meyer Freight sales and marketing representative, George T. Butterfield said that repairs to the Bermuda Islander will take approximately six weeks.

In the meantime, the Rio Para is scheduled to leave Salem New Jersey on Monday arriving in Bermuda on Thursday. Cargo from the Bermuda Islander will be transferred to the Somers Isles and is scheduled to arrive in Bermuda on Wednesday.

The Somers Isles arrived in Bermuda yesterday morning from Fernandina Beach Florida discharging 155 containers including two reefers, two boats and a Container Top Loader.

Once off loaded and back loaded with empties the Somers Isles will return to Fernandina Beach, Florida.

The Oleander arrived in Bermuda on Monday carrying 197 containers, 142 of which were dry containers. Included were nine road trailers, two MAFIs and one truck. She sailed from the Island yesterday.
