Rolling Stones and Eagles tribute bands rock Hamilton tonight and tomorrow
The Queen's Birthday holiday weekend will get a kicking start with two Rock and Roll bands taking the stage at Victoria Park for performances tonight and tomorrow.
Blushing Brides, a Rolling Stones tribute band and Hotel California, an Eagles tribute band, will play the park's bandstand — just before it goes to Scotland for its first makeover in 100 years.
The concerts, being hosted by 441 Productions Ltd. and the Port O' Call Group of Restaurants, are set to begin at 7 p.m. and run to roughly midnight.
The opening acts tonight are Secret Po Po and the Go Down Berries and the headline act is The Blushing Brides.
Saturday night, Secret Po Po and Ladies and Gentlemen will open and Hotel California will be the headline act.
Organiser Andrew Holmes said: "We chose the Blushing Brides based on a recommendation from Elevation, the U2 tribute band we had grace the shores of Bermuda twice already.
"We brought in the Brides last November and the performance was supposed to be at Barrs Bay, however, gale force winds forced us inside the Number One Shed. For the people who came out in strong numbers in horrible weather, and the Brides who gave an amazing show, that we would bring them back in good weather. So they are back by popular demand the Brides will be in Victoria Park (tonight)!
"Regarding Hotel California, we wanted a band that would compliment the music of the Stones for a second night of Rock in the Park," he said.
"Hotel California came highly recommended by a number of our industry connections, particularly the Blushing Brides.
"The Eagles is a band that spans generations and has hit after hit, therefore we did feel that it was a good compliment to the music of the Rolling Stones."
Mr. Holmes added: "This Queen's Birthday weekend at Victoria Park is the centre for your entertainment desires. Rock and Roll that's it!
"One of the reasons we chose Victoria Park is the bandstand, which has been the iconic landmark in the park for over 100 years is going to be dismantled and refurbished in time for the Tall Ships event in 2009.
"Therefore, it was an opportunity to have the last show there before the makeover.
"Secondly it is a beautiful location with a larger capacity then Barrs Bay. We are looking to continue more events in the city and Barrs Bay is particularly busy this time of year with Newport and the Big Game Classic both utilising the park.
"Therefore Victoria Park was an excellent alternative to try."
Tickets are $60 each night or $100 for both nights.
They can be purchased at All Wrapped Up or at the gate. Part proceeds of the event will go to Kidney Patients in Action Charity.
