Man brandished blade in Saturday morning card shop robbery

A man brandished a bladed article in front of an 85-year-old woman shop cashier and a 76-year-old woman customer as he stole money from a card shop's register in Hamilton on Saturday morning.

The robbery was reported to Police at around 9.40 a.m.

Officers arrived at the Card Cove store in Queen's Street after being alerted of the incident. According to a Police statement the robbery happened around 9.30 a.m. when an unknown man entered the store and approached the cashier.

The man then brandished a bladed article before taking a quantity of money from the cash register and making good his escape on Queen Street. The cashier,a Devonshire woman, 85, and a customer who was in the store at the time, a 76-year-old Paget woman, were not injured.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.
