With almost a week to go before the end of the month, this years June rainfall has already doubled the average rainfall for the month, and is now encroaching on setting a new record.

As of 9 p.m. yesterday, the June rainfall has surpassed 10.8 inches, while the June average is only 5.03 inches. The record for rainfall in June is 14.18 inches, set in 1962.

"We're not that far off," said Bermuda Weather Station Meteorologist Nicole Hannon. "We might get close to the record. We'll see. We still have a few days left."

While the rain has caused for numerous event cancellations, including last nights Harbour Nights, the steady rainfall has filled tanks, and brought the year-to-date rainfall back up after several dry months.

"We were below average for the year before this month, but now we're close to normal," said Ms. Hannon.

Those looking forward to seeing some sunshine before the end of the month may get what they're looking for in the next few days.

"Right now, it looks like it might start to clear away by Thursday afternoon," said Ms. Hannon. "There is a front we were worried about, but the likelihood is that we should get some sun this weekend."
