Age: 46
Role: Executive Director, The Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre
What is your job? To manage the overall operation of the Centre and to work with the Centre's Board of Directors in developing our strategic direction. The day-to-day duties include oversight for the clinical operation (we provide digital mammography, bone densitometry and ultrasound service) and for our community and corporate education and fundraising programmes.
What is your favourite part of the job? I've had a number of different jobs and careers actually, and what makes coming to work here is the unwavering commitment and dedication of both the staff and our Board of Directors. I consider myself very fortunate that I get to be a part of this great charity everyday.
What is your least favourite part of the job? My least favorite part of the job is also one of the most important reasons why our charity exists. In today's world the incidence of cancer occurs in around one out of every three people. It can be really difficult - heartbreaking - to see what some of our patients, friends and relatives are going through. But again - that's why we are here - to assist anyone we can and by also providing early detection screening and prevention programs - all in the fight against cancer.
What is your most interesting experience at work? The most interesting part of my job is the broad range of activities I get to be involved in every day. One minute I'm hiring a painter, the next I'm reviewing accounts and the next I'm participating in a planning session for a new fundraising event.
What would you be doing otherwise? I can't think of anything or anywhere else I'd rather be doing at this stage in my life.
