THE JOB with WAYNE EDWARDS
Age: 44
Role: Vice-President, Security Services, Bermuda Security Group
What is your job? I work at Bermuda Security Group, where I am the Vice-President of Security Services. My job encompasses managing all physical security at various sites. I manage the ports contracts that provide security to airports and seaports.
What is your favourite part of the job? My favourite part is the interaction with our clients.
What is your least favourite part of the job? It is very difficult to please everyone all the time, especially when working with such a labour-intensive portfolio. There are many different staff personalities that I need to manage and it can be very challenging at times.
What is your most interesting experience at work? I was working at the airport when the liquid ban came into effect for air carriers, resulting in our security needing to manually check all carry-on baggage at the airport, even after X-ray screening. Our security officers worked together with our client, the Department of Airport Operations, to manually check each and every piece of carry-on luggage for ten planes per day for a week. With so much emphasis placed on technology these days, it was a surreal experience to do this by hand, but we managed to get everyone screened and boarded on the planes on time.
What would you be doing otherwise? If I were not at Bermuda Security Group, I would probably be a career civil servant. If I were not working, I would travel through Europe.
