GPS debate in House
Taxi drivers should be aware of the GPS debate in the House of Assembly today, according to Shadow transportation Minister Shawn Crockwell.
The GPS law came into force in February 2006 making it mandatory for cabbies to have the devices which allot jobs to the nearest driver.
Many drivers have revealed to this paper that they do not use the GPS and those who do have it installed will leave it off.
They claim that the devices do not take into account the topographical layout of the Island making a driver in Spanish Point, for example, close to Dockyard even though they will have to drive miles to get there.
Last night Mr. Crockwell said the GPS legislation in its entirety was heavy-handed and that the United Bermuda Party would be fighting against it today.
