Bermuda face final Pan Am warm-up
Bermuda take on Jamaica this evening in their final warm-up game before the serious business of the Women's Pan American Cup begins on Saturday.
It will be the final chance for the home nation to get in some valuable practice before their opening game against Canada, a side that beat them 11-0 on Tuesday night.
With a spot at one of three World Cup qualifiers up for grabs for the top six teams, Bermuda know that one win will be enough to secure sixth place and it is likely to come down to the game against either Jamaica or Mexico next Friday.
Bermuda narrowly lost to both sides in the CAC Games in 2006 and coach Gareth Tavares believes his side are perfectly capable of winning this time around.
"Beating Jamaica and Mexico is definately not beyond the realms of possibility," said Tavares.
"In both games (in 2006) I feel that the two goal margin could have easily been erased by eliminating a lapse in concentration.
"Someone like Canada would give Jamaica and Mexico a similar run.
"I think the Jamaicans might be a bit quicker (than us), so they might have been able to match the Canadians for pace, but the Canadians execution is far superior.
"The game against Jamaica will be more physical for us, but I think the Canada game has made us wiser."
