LONDON (AP) — The British government has presented ambitious plans to reduce carbon emissions and create 1.2 million new jobs in the renewable energy field.
Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband says the plan relies on a big expansion in the use of wind energy, better home insulation, sophisticated electric meters and other measures to cut greenhouse gases.
Britain has committed to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 34 percent of 1990 levels by 2020 and by at least 80 percent by 2050.
Miliband said yesterday that energy costs for consumers would likely rise as the transition to a low carbon economy is made.
