Maxwell stays at No.1, and put children first
The Top 20 has a new home in The Royal Gazette following the closure of the Mid-Ocean News. You can say that we're keeping it in the family. This leads us to the telethon held to raise funds for The Family Centre. More on that after the Top 20.
Holding #1 is Maxwell's hit Pretty Wings, a smooth ballad. Climbing to #2 is Breakup by Mario featuring Gucci Mane and Sean Garrett. Slipping to #3 is Magnificent by Rick Ross featuring John Legend. Ego by Beyonce, improves to #4. Up to # 5 is Last Chance by Ginuwine. Falling to #6 is Knock You Down by Keri Hilson featuring Kanye West and Ne-yo.
Improving to #7 is I Know You Want Me by Pitbull. Up to #8 is Successful by Drake featuring L'il Wayne. Soaring to #9 is Mary Mary with God in Me. You must adore the beat and energy of this hit, as well as its spiritual and Gospel slant.

Up to #15 is this week is Would've Been the One by Solange, a dance hit and a former essential new tune. Improving to #16 is Wasted by Gucci Mane featuring Plies or OJ Da Juiceman. Up to #17 is Under by Pleasure P.
Skyrocketing to #18 is Whitney Houston's monster hit Million Dollar Bill, which is flying up dance, club and pop music charts all over the planet. Kudos to Alicia Keys, who wrote the track and Whitney Houston, who performed it as only she can.
Slipping to #19 is Best I Ever Had by Drake. Down to #19 is Love Game by Lady Gaga.
Now back to this week's word – The Family Centre is an excellent charity and a well conceived idea/organisation. As was stated by the Premier and the Minister of Health, any entity that seeks to assist children and families must be supported; with money, in kind sponsorships and with people's time.
The telethon also showcased some of Bermuda's finest musicians and vocalists. I only watched for a while but Shakobi Baden can flat out sing; this sister performed a very difficult song almost as good as the original.
Then there was the Tony Bari Band; has anybody heard this guy play the piano? Tony Bari makes keyboards smoke; the sounds which come from the devices when he is sat before them are out of this world, a thing of beauty and a joy to behold!
Then I heard fellow DJ and VSB/Mix 106 Radio Personality/Anchor Woman Ingrid Brown belt out a Bonnie Raitt classic, "Let's Give Them Something to Talk About". She has a great voice, clearly loves the stage, has the personality to perform and nailed the track in every way. Just one more opportunity to celebrate and showcase local talent/entertainers, who are often not celebrated and praised for the brilliant artists that they are.
We have so many issues with our young people and the family unit is continuously and increasingly under siege, to the extent that we must support it. I've always said and most people will agree that strong families will build a strong Bermuda.
Conversely, weak families and/or the destruction/dimunition of the family unit will create a society that is characterised by chaos, crime, anti-social behaviour, sociopaths, deviant behaviour, high rates of teenage pregnancy, high rates of illiteracy and all forms of lifestyles that can only lead to a path of destruction and an unhappy life for the majority of the citizens in that society.
This is really the work of the devil and must be seen as such, if it is to be truly defeated. At its core the multitude of issues faced by our country come from sin, and people succumbing to the temptation of doing things that in their hearts they know are not good, right or leading to a happy life.
But humans are weak, born to make mistakes and unless enlightened, Christ centred and determined; will sin every time! So the solution is to lead a Godly life. The Ten Commandments are always a simple yet often ignored solution for sensible living, creating a wholesome society that is characterized by loving one another irrespective of any differences; peace; happiness; and humans living in harmony with ourselves and our environment.
Jesus said suffer the little children, to come unto Him. He loved children, focused on them, encouraged parents not to tease or stress out their children, but instead to love them and raise them up in the way they should go; so that when they are older they will not depart from principles, morals and values taught during their rearing.
My version is that they will always return to it; because we all stray. They key is for us to come back.
This is why I salute the Family Centre; because they focus on assisting and developing children and families.
There are few other charities and initiatives with so critical a focus, role, and impact that can reach such a wide cross section of persons in this community; which is why we must support the Family Centre.
Peace … DJLT.
