Digicel Group revenue rises 11%
Bermuda-based Digicel Group Ltd. announced that its revenues were up 11 percent at $1.73 billion year-on-year for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2009.
A major operator in the Cariibbean and Central American cellular market also saw its number of subscribers rise by nine percent to 7.1 million.
The company has achieved successful roll-outs in markets including El Salvador and Trinidad & Tobago.
Digicel, which already operates in 24 markets in the Caribbean and in El Salvador, launched in Honduras in November 2008 and Panama in December 2008 via its sister company, Digicel Holdings (Central America) Ltd., picking up more than 1.1 million subscribers in less than five months, bringing its total number of subscriptions across 26 markets in the Caribbean and Central America to 8.2 million.
Worldwide, Digicel, which operates in 31 markets across the Caribbean, Central America and the South Pacific, saw its subscriber base worldwide grow from 7.1 million to 9.2 million, in total representing a growth rate of 34 percent.
