Bermuda's bid to progress to qualifiers for the next Women's World Cup got off to a rocky start in Florida yesterday as the Islanders went down heavily to Argentina by eight -wickets in their opening Americas Championship match.
Argentina knocked off the required runs for victory with four overs to spare. Wendy Woodley led Bermuda's batting with 16, followed by Maryellen Jackson who chipped in with 13.
Skipper Terrilyn Paynter claimed one of the two Argentinian wickets to fall, the other wicket to tumble being a run out.
Bermuda play Canada today and must win to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
n Cleveland County player Kian Butterfield is facing disciplinary action after being written up for dissent during his team's Belco Cup semi-final match with Young Men's Social Club at Lords last Saturday.
He is alleged to have stood his ground and sworn at umpire Bobby Smith after being given out during the match.
Last week a Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) disciplinary committee handed Willow Cuts wicketkeeper/batsman, Antoine Bean, a three match ban for showing dissent at an umpire's decision and using obscene and offensive language during his team's May 10 Open League match against Cleveland at Somerset Cricket Club.
