Runners ready for 5K

Another event on the busy road racing schedule will be held this Sunday as Swan's Road Club stage the annual Crime Stoppers 5K race and walk.

Starting and finishing at the new Argus Building on Wesley Street in Hamilton, the event is open to juniors aged eight and older and runners up to 60 and over.

Sponsored by The Argus Group, the race will allow juniors to compete over a 2.5 kilometre course.

Walkers and junior runners will be given a head start at 8.30 a.m., with adult runners setting out at 9 a.m.

All entrants will be eligible for draw prizes and the first 400 finishers will receive a tee-shirt.

Trophies will be handed out for the top three male and female finishers in each of the following categories: Walkers, Youth (8-11 years), Youth (12-15 years), Youth (16-18 years), Open, Masters and Seniors.

Also this year a prize of $1,000 will be given to the Physical Education teacher with the largest number of entries from their school.

Gerald Simons, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Argus Group, said: "Crime Stoppers Bermuda is an important community resource that provides the public with the ability to anonymously report criminal activity without fear of retribution.

"The Argus Group is a proud supporter of their annual walk and race, which helps to raise awareness of the local charity and allows families and friends to come together on a Sunday morning and get active."

Entry forms are available from the new Argus Building on Wesley Street, International Sports Shop, Sportseller and Sports 'R' Us.

Runners and walkers can also register online at www.bermudatiming.bm until 5 p.m. today.

No late entries will be accepted and race numbers can be picked up at the new Argus Building on Saturday between 12 and 3 p.m.

Entry fees are $25 for adults, $20 for Swan's members and $5 for juniors.
