An 18-year-old Southampton man was punched and robbed on his birthday.

Police said the teenager had stopped to pick up food from Ice Queen at approximately 3.45 a.m. on Sunday before heading west on an auxiliary cycle on South Road.

He later stopped at a layby near Warwick Camp, on South Road, in Warwick, when several men jumped out of a champagne coloured car and accosted him.

A Police spokesman said: "Apparently the auxiliary cycle the victim was riding was pushed down an embankment by the assailants afterward.

"The suspects made good their escape with a quantity of cash and jewellery, as well as the 18-year-old's BlackBerry cellular phone."

The victim was taken to King Edward Memorial VII Hospital and treated for bruising and abrasions and later released.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident, especially anyone who may have been at Ice Queen between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Sunday or anyone who may have seen a champagne coloured car travelling west on South Road around 4.15 a.m. on Sunday between Ice Queen and Warwick Camp to contact them.
