Police spokesman Evelyn James-Barnett said the girl had apparently taken a candy from one of the shelves at St. David's Variety Store and tried to swallow it whole.

A customer who witnessed the incident, which occurred around 5.30 p.m. on Monday, managed to dislodge the candy from the child's throat seconds before Police arrived.

The girl was not injured in the ordeal.

Police were also called out to the Airport later that day to meet an American Airlines flight which was forced to land in Bermuda after a passenger suffered seizures.

The flight was en route from Philadelphia to San Juan.

Ms James-Barnett said both the woman, who was epileptic, and her infant son were removed from the plane and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

They both spent the night there and were expected to be released yesterday.

The American Airlines flight left the Island on Monday night.
