Men fined for assault
Two men were each fined $1,500 yesterday for assaulting a 70-year-old taxi driver.
Barrington Smith and Bilal Lambert, both from Sandys, accosted Williston Trott as he tried to park his taxi at Ice Queen on January 16.
They pleaded guilty to assault at a February 25 Court hearing and yesterday were sentenced at Magistrates' Court.
The court heard that as Mr. Trott tried to park his taxi, its path was blocked by 15 motorcyclists.
When he asked them to move, Smith swore at him.
Mr. Trott asked: "Why did you curse me off?"
Smith then spat in his face.
A group then surrounded him, causing him to reach for a tyre iron and to call the Police. Lambert then pushed the elderly man back into his cab. The pair made off in a car but were arrested minutes later when it crashed near the Harmony Club on South Shore Road, Paget.
At their February court appearance, both men said they were under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Smith and Lambert $1,500 each and placed them under two years' probation.
