Road to success not easy, graduates told
The leader of the Island's opposition party yesterday shared the secrets of her success with the graduating class at a west end school.
Opposition Leader Jennifer Smith told the senior class during the Sandys Secondary School graduation yesterday that the road to success was not easy for her.
"As you move on to the next stage of your lives, I caution you that the road to success is not easy,'' she warned. "It hasn't been easy for me and I'm sure it has not been easy for anyone who has succeeded -- but perseverance, tenacity, integrity and faith brought us through...these are the qualities you will need to succeed.'' While parents, family and friends -- armed with cameras -- watched with pride, Ms Smith reminded the students that their graduation was a special occasion as it marked the last for the school.
"This year marks the 70th anniversary of Sandys Secondary School's continuous contribution to the education of Bermuda's young people,'' Ms Smith said.
"This graduation ceremony also marks the last such occasion for Sandys as a secondary school... this is indeed a very special occasion and you, the class of 1997 are part of this history.'' During her commencement address, Ms Smith told the 30 graduates, dressed in burgundy caps and gowns, that there were no limits on what they could achieve.
"I look at you and I see a world of possibilities, there are no limits on what you can do or be,'' she said. "Don't allow anyone to tell you what you can accomplish -- for you are limited only by your ambition to succeed.''
