The legislation was drawn up to allow a child snatched by an estranged father or mother and taken to another country to be returned to the legal guardian as fast as possible.

The law -- the International Child Abduction Act 1998 -- would allow the Bermuda courts to enforce restraining orders and custody orders made overseas.

Also on the cards for the Senate are two pieces of legislation designed to make it easier to do business in Bermuda.

The Trusts (Special Provisions) Act 1998 was drawn up to broaden the ability to use trusts for non-charitable purposes and remove the need for one of the trustees to be a "designated person'' -- in effect a barrister or an accountant.

The Act also axes a register of "purpose trusts'' on the Island.

And other legislation proposes allowing the name of a limited partner to be incorporated in the name of a partnership without risking the loss of limited liability status.

It would also allow a limited partner to take part in investment strategy without it being taken as participation in the management strategy of a partnership.
