For the second Sunday in a row, stormy weather took its toll on Island swimmers.
This time it was the annual Round-the Sound Swimathon, which was scheduled to be held October 13 but was cancelled because of hazardous conditions -- particularly for youngsters.
A week ago, Hamilton Harbour was deemed too hazardous for the Bank of Bermuda Tirathlon and it was put off until this coming weekend.
Similarly, Swimathon officials are aiming for another two weeks down the road -- on October 27 -- for their four-race charity event, although this won't be confirmed until after meeting this week with Palmetto Bay Hotel officials.
The Round-the-Sound features races of varying lengths at the Aquarium, My Lord's Bay, Shark Hole and Turtle Island within 3 1/2 hours of each other.
HARNESS RACING RAH Michael Roberts picked up another four wins on Sunday to join Eddie Roque, who had three, on nine wins overall in Harness Pony racing at Vesey Street.
But it was a second place finish which gave Roberts the most satisfaction as he drove Direct Toy Boy to the fastest time ever for a Bermuda-bred racing pony with a time of 1:09/1. Tom Matthews' Catch A Fire won the race in 1:09.
The youngest driver on the track this year, Junior DeSilva, won his first race of the season while driving Bermuda Warrior. Double winners were Miss Tuffer Road, driven by Leslie Wolffe, Trot Acre Abby Lass driven by Roberts, shamrock's Formal Attire with Roque and Joseph Viera's Grand Magic.
Carolina Jubilee, driven by Murray Terceira, won the first heat in the Free for All in a blistering time of 1:06/2, the fastest time recorded on the track this season. Grand Shady with Michael DeCosta won the second Free for All heat.
Next race day is November 2.
