The prize-giving took place at the Rotary's weekly Pier 6 luncheon and honoured Parish Constable Volney A. Welch for his "high personal motivation, continuing support of the Police service and conscientious actions within the community''.

P.c. Welch was recruited to Police in January, 1992 and since that time has worked closely with many charitable organisations including the Sunshine League and Hope Homes.

Presenting P.c. Welch with an engraved silver plaque was Police Commissioner Colin Coxall who said: "We in the Bermuda Police Service regard the Parish Constables as the hub of our success as far as safety in the community is concerned.'' P.c. Welch said: "I wish to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to those who have helped me along the way. I am very honoured to receive this award.'' TOP OFFICER -- P.c. Volney Welch
