the recently contested World Karate Organisation Championships in Venice, Italy.

Iris, a member of the Bermuda Karate Organisation contingent, went triple gold this time around, winning the weapons 15-17 category, as well as traditional kumite (170cm) and point sparring (170cm). Her success followed similar triumphs at last year's event in Brazil and in Florida two years previously.

There were several other success stories among the junior members, with Scott Kennedy second in point sparring, traditional kata and free kata in the under-10 division, and Sentawali Woolridge third in traditional kumite (over 170cm).

Although none of the Bermuda's adult team members advanced to individual finals, the team of Ruben Bean, Michael Burrows and Troy Darrell got through to the third round of team traditional kumite, where they were defeated by England A. The team had earlier got past Canada B and Italy B and wound up fifth overall.
