Juniors tops in squash tourney
titles for the first time in the six-year history of the AF Smith Corporate Team Squash Tournament at the weekend.
In Division One, Justin Robinson led the way for the Riders with a 15-6, 9-15, 15-12 victory over Eve Grice. Phil Martin then levelled with a 15-13, 15-8, 7-15 win for the MGs over Stephen Smith.
Bermuda international team player Mel Caines met Tim Grice in the decider, Caines playing with an eight-point deficit.
In the first game Caines chased everything down to win 15-8 while Grice plugged away to take the second 15-9. Recognising Grice's slipping energy level, Caines used a string of exhausting rallies to win the decider 15-7 and earn Rough Riders the title.
In Division Two, 13-year-old Andrew Robinson of the Mixed Nuts won 15-5, 15-12, 11-15 over Gary Venning of Team JAG. Robinson had needed just one game for the title after team-mates Michael Shrubb and Richard Arnold notched up a 4-2 lead over their respective opponents, Ann Mitchell and Jim Tees.
