GlobeNet gets go-ahead for project
announced that it has received the green light from the United States to land its undersea cable.
The Federal Communications Commission has given the Atlantica 1 project the go-ahead, and if completed before its rivals it will become the first link-up system of its kind to serve South America.
The cable will come on shore at Tuckerton, New Jersey and Boca Raton in Florida and will eventually link up with Bermuda in a trans-Atlantic link.
"We now have all the landing authorities we need to complete the initial Altantica 1 configuration,'' said Jerry DeMartino, GlobeNet's President and Chief Executive Officer.
"We had previously secured the necessary rights to land in Bermuda, Brazil and Venezuela. We continue to be on track to light up our first segments this year.''
