Controversial canine returns to the SPCA
two weeks of being dogged by controversy.
The tiny terrier, who roamed the South Shore after escaping from the society's Paget base, was finally brought to heel by SPCA member Miss Louisa Bermingham, a beach attendant at the Mid Ocean Club. She is now adopting him.
During his time on the run Chansey sparked a controversy involving SPCA official Mrs. Jeanette Larson, who was accused of letting one of her dogs attack him. Mrs. Larson denied the allegation, saying her pet escaped from her car.
Chansey, a year-old mongrel terrier, was originally given up by an owner who found him uncontrollable, said inspector Mr. Louis Ray.
Miss Bermingham, 20, said the dog turned up at the beach on Saturday and Sunday, and was fed by staff who named him Cup Match Mould. "We were all feeling pretty mouldy and hungover on Saturday,'' she explained. "He looked the way we were feeling.
"The next morning, on my way to work, I saw him running down the road just by the florist on South Shore Road, Devonshire.
"I stopped my bike and got off and I think he recognised me. I had some food with me so I fed him.'' After 45 minutes spent trying, Chansey was finally trapped.
"I was quite relieved when we finally got hold of him. He was just so hungry and so petrified.
"He's a lovely little thing. He's very cute and bubbly.'' DOGGONE DOG -- Miss Louisa Bermingham cuddles Chansey the terrier, who is back at the SPCA.
