Police prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said David Andrew Madeiros, 24, went camping with the family of the five-year-old over Cup Match.

On Thursday morning, the father took Madeiros home with his children, then went back to the campsite to his wife.

Madeiros, of Pembroke, got the girl undressed and put to bed, and later came into her room again, when he rubbed his hands and penis over her genitals, said Sgt. Osborne.

The offence was detected the next day by the girl's mother, who noticed her daughter was acting "restrained''. The girl told her mother what had happened.

The defendant was arrested on the next day. He admitted the offence and said he had been drinking.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge ordered a social inquiry and set bail at $5,000 and barred contact with the family.

Mr. Judge said Madeiros should have a lawyer before sentencing.
