"It's a terrific home for the elderly because of the quiet and peaceful atmosphere,'' said nurse administrator Mrs. Cecille Snaith-Simmons. "Those who have moved in have adjusted wonderfully.

"They seem to be settled and are sleeping well at night. That's a good sign.'' There is a daily routine in effect for the residents at Packwood Home, said Mrs. Snaith-Simmons, adding: "But it is not rigid. We try to be very flexible because this is their home and we want it to be a relaxed atmosphere,'' she said.

Residents start waking at five a.m.

"They choose to go to bed quite early,'' noted Mrs. Snaith-Simmons, "so they tend to get up early.'' All residents, however, are up by 8.30 a.m. when breakfast is served.

Juice, hot beverages and snacks are available every day at 10.30 a.m. And lunch is served at noon. Snacks are also available in the afternoon at tea time. Dinner is served early, usually between 4.30 and 5 p.m.

"Also if residents are still awake by 7.30 p.m., they can get a hot drink and snack if they wish,'' said Mrs. Snaith-Simmons.

Throughout the day, residents are free to do as they please.

"They partake in organised activities, read the newspaper, talk among themselves and visit or even go for a drive with friends and relatives,'' Mrs.

Snaith-Simmons said.

"It's a happy environment here,'' she added. "And the residents seem to get along well with each other.''
