Gov't act on road safety petition
concern expressed by area residents about their children's safety, traffic congestion and excessive noise.
Traffic coming from Woodlands Road will only be able to travel east along Euclid Avenue to St. John's Road according to a Works and Engineering notice in last week's Official Gazette.
One of the MPs for the Pembroke West Central area, Environment Minister Mrs.
Ann Cartwright DeCouto yesterday said she welcomed the news.
Noting that Euclid Avenue was narrow, had no side walks and very little off-street parking for residents, Mrs. Cartwright DeCouto said the avenue was being used as a through road for traffic, particularly heavy trucks.
She said residents complained to her about the danger this posed to their children, the excessive noise it caused, and traffic jams.
After arranging for a petition to be circulated throughout the neighbourhood, Mrs. Cartwright DeCouto said it was clear that "an overwhelming'' number of property owners and tenants wanted the avenue to be made a one-way road.
She forwarded the petition with this request to Works and Engineering.
