Japanese reinsurance manager given tour of Biological Station

The deputy manager of the reinsurance department of Yasuda Fire & Marine Insurance Company of Japan, Eiji Kotani toured the Bermuda Biological Station as a guest of Aon Re (Bermuda) Ltd.

Yasuda Fire & Marine, the second largest property insurer in Japan, is a keen advocate of the Bermuda reinsurance market and one of Aon Re worldwide's most valued clients.

The Bio Station is working with Aon and 11 other co-sponsors from Bermuda and the US on the Risk Prediction Initiative, a research scheme aimed at the prediction of catastrophic climatological events.

It is of special interest to Mr. Kotani because of Japan's susceptibility to typhoons. Yasuda Fire & Marine has acquired significant reinsurance cover from Bermuda's catastrophe reinsurers, assisting the Japanese insurer to manage their exposure to these catastrophic events.
