Juniors pipped in title race
cost Bermuda Junior Golf Association what would have been their first-ever Amstel League `A' Division title in the final match at Riddell's Bay on Saturday.
The juniors, who led by four points going into the final fixture, finished dead last in the seven-club competition, allowing hosts Riddell's Bay to snatch the championship.
Riddell's, who finished second on the day led by Duncan Zelkin's 72, carded a four-player score of 299 compared to BJGA's 318. Aaron James was the best of the juniors with a 75.
That meant Riddell's Bay picked up eight points and ended the league on 47.5.
BJGA scored only two to finish on 45.5. The day's honours belonged to Mid Ocean Club's Blake Marshall who fired 68 as his team topped the leaderboard with a four-player score of 289 and a maximum 10 points. But Mid Ocean had to settle for fourth overall in the final standings.
In Saturday's last `B' Division fixture the BJGA number two team, who had already clinched the title, drew further clear with another convincing win at Ocean View.
The juniors, led by Ryan Mello's 75, carded 232 to beat second-placed Port Royal III by 13 shots.
BJGA II finished the season on 54 points, 14 more than second placed Port Royal III.
The league's prize presentation will take place this Saturday at Port Royal after the Amstel one-day tournament.
