In the 14-and-under event, the unseeded Whitter defeated number three seed Nathan Voogt of the Netherlands Antilles in the play-off between semi-final losers on Saturday.

The 14-year-old Whitter had also seen off the number one seed in his run to the last four.

His Bermuda team-mate Ryan Swan also enjoyed success, winning the consolation event with victory over Alberton Richelieu of St. Lucia. Swan's 6-3, 6-0 success earned him 13th place out of the field of 22.

The two boys teamed up in the doubles and reached the semi-finals of the main draw before going down to Faron Carter and Russell Moseley of Barbados.

Sisters Sasha and Zoe Fisher finished 15th and 16th overall in the girls' field of 18.

Bermuda placed sixth out of the 12 countries taking part and coach Terry Smith seemed well satisfied with the efforts of his players.

"They performed admirably, battled hard and they had a lot of tennis to play -- more than they would have got in any local tournament,'' said Smith.

"I think we should continue to travel to this type of event. It brings out the best in our players. The girls were unfortunate not to have won their matches, but they did compete very well.''
