Government about potential Y2K problems in the Overseas Territories.

Issued on Friday in the form of travel advisories for British citizens, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) warnings relate to the Cayman Islands, Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands.

Under the heading, "Millennium Bug'', the British Government warns of "a risk of limited disruption in some areas of the economy, notably the health sector'' in the Caymans.

"British nationals resident in or visiting the Cayman Islands should take the potential for temporary disruption into account when making their plans for the New Year period,'' the FCO added.

In Gibraltar, the warning is of "interruptions to essential services which cannot be discounted''.

The statement adds: "Given the contingency plans which are already in place, any such interruptions should be kept short.'' There is also "a risk of limited disruption in some areas of the economy of the Falkland Islands,'' the FCO says. "The Government of the Falkland Islands are continuing to take action to resolve outstanding difficulties between now and the end of the year,'' the FCO said.

In all the jurisdictions, the standard warning to the British traveller is repeated.

The FCO maintains on its website a list of "Y2K country statements'' from those countries and territories which have issued them. Bermuda is not on that list.
