North Village appeal BFA cup decision

decision not to reschedule their first Martonmere Cup match with Vasco which was abandoned two weeks ago with Vasco leading 3-0 after 70 minutes.

That result, combined with Dandy Town's 2-0 loss to Vasco last week means that Village will take an inferior goal difference into tonight's remaining Group B match with Town at PHC Stadium (9.00) which will decide the other semi-final spot from that group.

Village are arguing that the decision to award the match to Vasco was unfair to them as they might have pulled a goal or two back in the final 20 minutes of the game, which was abandoned because of light failure.

That could well determine who advances tonight, as Town need just a draw to join Vasco in the semi-finals, because their loss to Vasco was by a smaller margin than Village's defeat to the group winners.

In order to advance Village must win, something they have not managed so far this season.

St. George's have already joined Vasco in the semi-finals, leaving Boulevard and Somerst to battle for the other remaining spot from Group A. Boulevard, who have been coming into their own in their last two games, should be favourites to qualify and win their group as they need just a draw in tonight's opening match.

If Boulevard get that point they will avoid defending cup champions Vasco in the semi-finals, which could possibly mean a repeat of the 1994 final which Vasco won on penalty kicks.

In order to stay in the competition Somerset must win by a two-goal margin.

That would leave all three teams on three points, with Boulevard losing out on goal difference. If Somerset win by a one goal margin then Boulevard would finish second in the group behind St. George's.
