"I in no way condone your behaviour,'' Magistrate Edward King told 17-year-old Makeda Goater of Loyal Hill, Devonshire.

"I hope those others out there get the message -- bars are off limits for underage young people,'' he added.

Junior Crown counsel Veronica Gordon told the court officers conducting a search of the Studio 55 nightclub on Reid Street, Pembroke, questioned Goater on February 16.

But she told Police she was born a year ahead of her actual birthday.

However, she eventually admitted she had lied after officers were unable to verify the false information.

Goater reportedly told them she had done so because she was scared and knew she was too young to drink alcohol.

Yesterday, lawyer Kim Wilson, representing Goater, said her client, was celebrating her birthday on the night of the incident.

Ms Wilson also said Goater's father had already "severely punished'' his daughter and recommended a "section 64'' in which Goater would be bound over to keep the peace.

Mr. King bound the teenager over for six months and warned her that any future criminal offences could haunt her later in life.
