Opposition Senate Leader Sen. Alex Scott last week raised the plight of the employees, who wanted legal help after allegedly not being paid for several weeks.

Last week he said they were worried about what would happen if the company folded, and had been told they would have to wait two or three weeks for Legal Aid.

Yesterday he said the matter was now "progressing satisfactorily'' and the workers had had their plea for Legal Aid heard. At least two or three of the 15 to 20 workers had been offered alternative restaurant jobs, he said.

He praised the Director of Social Services for his help, but suggested the Legal Aid system needed to be revamped.

The system should be able to help employees "under siege by circumstances within or outside the control of their employers'', and other people in emergencies, he added.

Sen. Jerome Dill (UBP) said Sen. Scott had last week made a "baseless allegation'' that Government had done nothing to help the unemployed.

Senators should confront each other on issues, not as individuals, he said.
