A man who stole papaws and oranges from a garden in Hermitage Road was seen later walking west along Middle Road with two clear plastic bags of fruit, said Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale.

The man was described as dark-skinned with a dark jacket and light-colour pants. Anyone who may have seen him should contact the Police Community Media Relations Office.

The theft comes on the heels of reports that Bermuda's farmers are falling prey to thieves more than ever during the recession.

Some 200 pounds of broccoli, worth close to $400, was stolen from a garden in Warwick last week.

Mr. Roland Hill, and his wife Patsy, who own the garden said while the number of thefts had increased substantially, there was little that could be done to prevent them.
